GM Series Grease Trap

Grease Trap

The Wärtsilä GM Series uses a proven baffle and gravity system to separate fats, oils, and grease from galley wastewater automatically, with no manual intervention during normal operation.

Designed for the demanding marine environment, the GM Series delivers proven grease separation performance across a range of vessel types and galley sizes. Three configuration options ensure the right solution for every application.

Designed to BS EN 1825

Fully designed and sized in accordance with the international standard for grease separators, ensuring regulatory compliance on all vessels.

Gravity-Driven Separation

Passive baffle system requires no energy input for the core separation process - dense solids settle, grease rises, clean water exits.

Three Variants Available

Standard, Heater Only, and Pump & Heater configurations to match operational requirements and vessel size.

Four Size Options

NS 0.5 through NS 4 nominal flow sizes accommodate galleys from small vessels to large commercial ships.

Three Variants, One System

Choose the configuration that fits your vessel's needs, from a compact standard unit to a fully automated pump-and-heater system.

Standard

Two manual drain valves: one at the Grease Collection Zone (V01) and one at the tank base (V02). Fully passive operation; grease separation occurs automatically as galley grey water flows through. Periodic manual drain and clean required.

Grease Trap with Heater

Integrated immersion heater with combined thermostat (default 45°C) and bimetallic over-temperature safety cut-out (80°C). Liquefies collected grease before disposal. Maximum thermostat setting 60°C to minimise scalding risk and mineral build-up.

Grease Trap with Pump & Heater

Full automation via control panel with digital timer (TR1, default 30 min heat cycle), manual mode selector (S1: Grease / Tank), and pump start button (PB1). Two pump modes: Grease Only (removes FOG layer to LS01 low level) and Tank Drain (full drain to LS02 low level).

Operating Principle

Wastewater enters via gravity feed. The Grease Sludge Trap collects dense solids at the base. Water and FOG (fats, oils, grease) flow over the partition wall into the Grease Separator Zone, where lower-density liquids rise to the surface and are retained in the Grease Collection Chamber. Clean water exits via the immersion pipe and outlet, while grease remains captured for periodic disposal.
