  • PT PLN Lombok GECC, Indonesia

The PLN Lombok GECC power plant, delivered in 2019, is powered by 13 Wärtsilä 34DF engines that can run on light fuel oil and liquified natural gas. When the gas supply is uncertain or prices are volatile, it is possible to switch from gas to liquid fuel, and vice versa, even during operation, while maintaining a high output.

Wärtsilä’s operation and maintenance capabilities provide critical support to Timor Leste’s national power supply

Nov 26, 2025, 09:30 by Wärtsilä Corporation

Technology group Wärtsilä and Electricidade De Timor-Leste, Empresa Pública (EDTL, EP) have renewed their integrated Operation and Maintenance (O&M) agreement for three years. The agreement covers two power plants, Hera and Betano, in Timor-Leste in Southeast Asia, with a combined output of 255 MW. Ensuring continuous availability of these plants is vital to the country, as they are the only plants supporting the national grid. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q2 2025.

Wärtsilä has operated and maintained the Hera and Betano power plants since they were commissioned in 2012. Both plants operate with Wärtsilä 46 engines. The proven success of Wärtsilä’s services in ensuring consistent high performance with minimal downtime was cited as the basis for renewing the O&M contract.

“These power plants are a valuable national asset and are critical to the country’s industrial and consumer electricity supply. Reliable performance is therefore essential, and Wärtsilä’s high quality service has provided the peace of mind needed,” comments Mr. Paulo da Silva, the President Director of EDTL, EP.
EDTL, EP plans to harness renewable energy within the next two years by installing solar panels and battery energy storage systems. Wärtsilä will consult and provide technical support for the integration of the existing Wärtsilä engines and the new renewable energy installations to maintain grid stability.

“Wärtsilä has a proven track record of delivering reliable, high-value services. Our extensive experience in O&M services for power plant operators worldwide allows our customers to focus on their core business, while we ensure their plants operate efficiently and reliably,” says Kari Punnonen, Energy Business Director, Australasia at Wärtsilä Energy.
