Shipboard incinerator

A shipboard facility designed for the incineration of wastes or other matter on board, generated during the normal operation of the ship. Incinerators are predominantly designed for intermittent operation, hand fired and fed by hand. The ash or vapor can be hazardous.

Regulation 16 of MARPOL Annex VI requires that all shipboard incinerators installed on ships on or after 1st January 2000 are type approved by the Administration based on the requirements contained in IMO Resolution MEPC 76(40).
