Scrubber, scrubbing tower

A cleaning chamber in an inert gas plant. The purpose of the scrubber is to cool the flue gas and remove most of the sulphur dioxide and particulate soot. Seawater is used to scrub or remove contaminants from the gas before it passes to cargo tanks. See also SOxSCRUBBER SYSTEMS.
