Floodable length

marine

The floodable length at any point in the length of the ship is the maximum portion of the length, having its centre at the point in question, which can be symmetrically flooded at the prescribed permeability, without immersing the margin line. The floodable length of a vessel varies from point to point throughout her length and is usually the greatest amidships and the smallest near the quarter length.
