A piping system intended for disposing of water that may accumulate in spaces within the vessel (holds, machinery spaces, cofferdams) due to condensation, leakage, washing, fire fighting, etc. It is to be capable of controlling flooding in the Engine Room as a result of limited damage to piping systems. However, the bilge system is not able to cope with flooding resulting from a large hull damage not protected in due time.
