Maximising efficiency and performance

Our optimising solutions extend engine lifecycles, and improve your equipment’s performance and operational efficiency. By keeping older installations up to today’s technical standards, we enhance the performance, reliability, safety, availability and profitability of your asset.
    Engine performance optimisation

The Wärtsilä 46 Performance upgrade is a tailored performance upgrade package that boosts engine performance by optimising the combustion process and tuning the engine to the most frequently used operating range. The Wärtsilä 46 Performance upgrade make use of modern higher efficiency turbochargers, and when combined with Miller inlet valve timing and engine tuning the engine’s performance is maximised with regards to fuel oil consumption and generated emissions. This will lower operational costs and aid in complying with tightening emission limits, all the while increasing operational efficiency.

Performance optimization can be sought for in areas such as full load or low load optimization, emission reduction, or optimization with regards to SFOC and emission reduction in general. The scope of the package is determined case by case according to customer requirements. Engine documentation update (i.e. EIAPP amendment), in case needed, is part of Wärtsilä’s delivery scope.

    SOLAS solutions for engine safety
The Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention in its successive forms is generally regarded as the most important of all international treaties concerning the safety of merchant ships. The main objective is to specify minimum standards for the construction, equipment and operation of ships, related to their safety.

Wärtsilä SOLAS solutions are designed to prevent the unexpected in regard to injuries, engine room fires, material and capital damages, or off-hire. Furthermore, SOLAS upgrades ensure that the requirements of classification societies, flag administrations, and port authorities are met. Wärtsiläs SOLAS solution options consist of maintenance sets, splash guard solution improvements, upgrades for hot surfaces protection solutions, and SOLAS compliance audits.
    Engine control system upgrades
Wärtsilä UNIC Engine control system is a durable, all-inclusive, automation system specially designed for the harsh environments in which engines operate. Upgrading old engines to latest Wärtsilä automation standards will provide benefits such as safe and reliable operation, lower operation and maintenance costs and extended installation lifetime. When upgrading the automation systems in order to optimise their performance and fulfilling new requirements, efforts should also be put on securing the continuous operation of the installation.

    The main features include:

    • New hardware modules
    • New software architecture
    • Standardisation of connections
    • A single maintenance tool (WECSplorer/Unitool)

    • Plains-end-reference-slide

      Plains end

Upgrading Plains End II to Wärtsilä’s 0.9% pre-chamber provided extra room for improved efficiency and stable emissions.
