    Performance

    The bollard pull is the leading requirement for tugs, and Wartsila's WST Thrusters will give you the edge.

    There are two main tug types: those with their propulsion aft and towing point near amidships, i.e. conventional ones, or those with their towing point aft and propulsion forward of amidships, i.e. tractor tugs. Tugs with azimuthing propulsion, either Z-drive or cycloidal, have effectively displaced single or twin screw tugs.

    Emission Reduction

    The Wärtsilä LNG & hybrid systems are designed and integrated to optimise the overall operation of the vessel. The system ensures fuel savings and reduced maintenance costs, in addition to substantial reductions in emissions. By increasing the power redundancy, the system allows the engine to operate closer to its optimum design point where it has highest efficiency and least emissions. This will result in reduced maintenance need and increased system performance. Rapid response from the battery system are also among the benefits offered.

    LNG fuelled tug

    Wärtsilä dual-fuel (DF) engines provide the flexibility to select the most suitable fuel according to availability, price and local environmental restrictions. The flexibility of the dual-fuel engine technology also ensures a high level of operational security since the switch from gas to diesel can be made at any time without loss of speed or power.

    The Wärtsilä LNGPac is a complete fuel gas handling system for LNG fuelled ships. It includes the bunkering station, the LNG tank and related process equipment, as well as the control and monitoring system.  Since they typically operate in or close to harbours, tugs are particularly affected by environmental regulations, and the need for compliance is an increasing concern for tug owners and operators. As a technological enabler our responsibility is to develop such products and solutions that allow our customers to develop their own business in a sustainable way.
