As our ships must stay operational 24/7, it is extremely important that the crews can master the system. After the training we have been able to operate the system by ourselves. I would recommend this type of training session for other customers with similar needs.

Latest Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy training centre opens in Finland

May 11, 2023, 13:00 by Wärtsilä Corporation

Training is an important element in the company’s lifecycle services

The Wärtsilä training centre in Vaasa, Finland is now officially up and running. As part of the company’s Sustainable Technology Hub, the centre offers a combination of eLearning, interactive live broadcasts with instructors, and the use of web-based simulators. The aim is to provide quality training to develop the competencies needed to ensure customers receive the highest level of support.

Exclusive training on Wärtsilä products is provided, with the courses being open to anyone who operates Wärtsilä equipment. Both standard and tailored courses are available, and the learning is both theoretical and practical. The training makes use of first-rate learning aids, with real equipment and components, as well as 3D models.

“Our global fleet of training centres is a central element within Wärtsilä’s lifecycle offering. They allow us to deliver optimal support to our customers in managing their assets. At the same time, thanks to the internal training possibilities, we can ensure that our own personnel have the necessary competencies and know-how. The addition of this latest Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy in Vaasa, where we have access to the latest technologies in the Sustainable Technology Hub, extends our capabilities,” says Stefan Wiik, Vice President, Field Services and Workshops at Wärtsilä.

Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academies (WLSA) serve customers in both the marine and energy sectors, and also provide training for internal personnel. They are designed to reflect and respond to the increasing complexity of today’s highly technical installations. The training covers all aspects of managing and operating an installation, including maintenance, safety, availability, reliability and performance.

Wärtsilä currently has nine WLSA’s located in the USA, Brazil, India, South Korea, the Netherlands, Italy, Indonesia, China and Finland. They are run by 75 full-time employees and more than 100 flex instructors. During 2022, the centres delivered 979 classes, including over 30,500 course man-days. The training was carried out in classrooms, onboard, on site, and online for more than 48,000 students, of which 52% were internal personnel and 48% external customer employees.

In addition to its training facilities, Wärtsilä also has the marine industry’s most extensive global network of service and workshop facilities. More information on Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academies can be found at www.wartsila.com/wlsa.
