Wärtsilä long-term service agreement supports Jordanian power producer’s reliability and sustainability targets

Sep 27, 2023, 09:00 by Wärtsilä Corporation

Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a renewal of its long-term service agreement for four years with Jordanian independent power producer AES. The agreement covers the 256 MW AES Levant power plant located east of the nation’s capital Amman. A Wärtsilä agreement has supported AES’s targets for the plant’s reliable and sustainable operations since it was commissioned in 2014. The renewal order was booked by Wärtsilä in May 2023.

The AES Levant plant operates with 16 Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines fuelled by natural gas. It serves the national grid with a reliable supply during peak hours daily. The agreement includes spare parts for major overhauls of the engines and auxiliaries, engine overhaul services by qualified Wärtsilä service engineers, remote troubleshooting assistance provided by specialists working from Wärtsilä Expertise Centres, and daily and monthly upkeeping reports delivered via Wärtsilä's unique digital predictive maintenance solution Expert Insight.

“Our reputation is built around providing reliable, affordable electric power. For this we need to be assured that the power plant is optimally maintained and serviced. Wärtsilä has efficiently provided the support needed since the plant commenced operations, so it was quite natural that we wish to continue the agreement for a further four years,” said Khalid Salameh, Operation Director of the AES Levant plant.

“AES shares Wärtsilä's commitment to sustainable operations and a decarbonised future. Efficiency is key to achieving these goals, and through utilising the latest technology in our work, we strive to ensure that the AES Levant plant operates at maximum efficiency at all times,” commented Alexandre Eykerman, Energy Business Director, Middle East, at Wärtsilä.

AES also owns and operates a 52 MW solar power plant that was supplied and built by Wärtsilä under an engineering, procurement and construction contract in 2019.

Wärtsilä service agreements are a central pillar of the company’s lifecycle support approach. Digitalisation and connectivity are used to predict problems and make corrections before problems occur. Specialists working from Wärtsilä's global network of Expertise Centres analyse data from the customer’s assets to identify potential problems in advance, and to deliver remote support round-the-clock.
