Wärtsilä Offshore and dynamic positioning simulator

Our Offshore and Dynamic Positioning Simulator is based on the NTPRO (Navi Trainer Professional) 5000 navigational simulator, designed to train teams involved in the transfer and supply of anchored mobile offshore units (MOU).

The system provides comprehensive training in anchor handling, Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems and rig crane operations, specifically designed to train MOU, AHT (Anchor Handling Tugs) and offshore supply vessel personnel. The solution has been tested and validated by experienced AH and DP masters and is compliant with NI (Nautical Institute) and DNV (DET NORSKE VERITAS) requirements.

Key benefits

  • Specifically designed simulation solution for:
    - MOU personnel (oil installation manager, MOU DP master, anchor winch operator, offshore crane operator)
    - AHT personnel  (AH winch operator, DPO/navigator offshore crane operator)
    - Offshore supply vessels personnel  (master/navigator, DP operators)
  • Resource Management team training for bridge, deck, crane, and the rig.
  • Anchor handling modules to enable familiarisation with the equipment.
  • Specific skill-based training for anchor handling.
  • Operations planning training for rig moves.
  • Dynamic Positioning training, including basic, advanced and sea time reduction modules.
  • Rig crane operations training.
  • ROV-operations training.
  • Custom applications training.
  • Staff assessments.

Key features

  • A limited task simulator for instrumentation or blind DP manoeuvring, joystick manoeuvring and position keeping.
  • A multi-task simulator capable of simulating DP operations in a realistic and fully DP equipped ship's bridge environment.
  • A full mission simulator capable of simulating dynamic positioning operations in a realistic and fully equipped ship's bridge environment, including visual presentation capability near offshore installations.
  • Complaint with NI and DNV requirements.
  • Tested and validated by experienced AH and DP masters.
  • Successfully interfaced with the following DP manufacturer systems: General Electrics (former CONVERTEAM), Marine Technologies (MT) and NAVIS.

Configuration

Anchor handling training: from compact to full mission DP simulator classification according to the Nautical Institute NTPRO 5000 has been successfully interfaced with the following DP manufacturer systems:

  • General Electrics (former CONVERTEAM)
  • Marine Technologies (MT)
  • NAVIS

Class C: A limited task simulator for instrumentation or blind DP manoeuvring, joystick manoeuvring and position keeping.

  • Typically, a classroom setup with standalone DP1 systems:
  • Can be delivered with an optional package, including an instructor station, ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System), Radar and a visual channel (STCW (Standards of Training Certification of Watchkeepers) (Standards of Training Certification of Watchkeepers) package).
  • Mainly intended for phase 1, DP Basic/Induction course.
  • Can also be used for familiarisation and basic training.

Class B: A multi-task simulator capable of simulating DP operations in a realistic and fully DP equipped ship's bridge environment.

  • DP 2 system.
  • Emergency stoppers for all thrusters.
  • Navigational screen with a realistic view of an oilfield.
  • Extensive faults generation/introduction.
  • Appropriate visualisation to accommodate the intended operation, which is recommended and mandatory as of 2014.
  • Mainly intended for phase 3, Advanced/Simulator course.
  • Can also be used for DP refresher training and familiarisation.

Class A: A full mission simulator capable of simulating Dynamic Positioning operations in a realistic and fully equipped ship's bridge environment, including the capability of visual presentation near offshore installations.

  • DP 2 system.
  • Physical controls for all thrusters/rudders required.
  • Extensive faults generation/introduction.
  • 210° horizontal field of view/25° vertical field of view.
  • Mainly intended for sea time reduction training in phase 4 of the certification process.
  • Can also be used for DP refresher training, Phase 3, Advanced/Simulator course, and special operations training.

Compliance

To ensure the highest industry standards, the Wärtsilä Offshore simulator has been designed in line with the following regulations:

  • Meets the Nautical Institutes and OSVDPA requirements for all levels of Offshore and Shuttle Tanker DPO (Dynamic Positioning Operators) training.
  • Compliant with DNVGL-ST-0033 Maritime Simulator Systems standard, section 8. DP Simulators (April 2018)
  • Scalable simulator setup with innovative and economic competitive configurations that can be used for other types of training such as ECDIS and ARPA/Radar.
  • We offer Accreditation support packages enabling a quick and safe path to accreditation from the Nautical Institute, OSVDPA, class societies or local programs. Proven concept for immediate ROI.
