Upgrade service - diesel-electric power limitation

Getting ready for EEXI

By December 2023 all existing merchant, cruise and ferry vessels, above 400 GT* and which engage in international trade, must comply with the requirements of the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), which defines a minimum energy efficiency level for vessels.
*falling under MARPOL Annex VI

Wärtsilä Diesel-Electric Power Limitation is an upgrade service for vessels with Wärtsilä diesel-electric propulsion system that do not already meet the upcoming EEXI regulations. The upgrade is specific to each vessel’s system and is software-based.  If this is required Wärtsilä experts will review the current system and develop and install the upgrade required for the vessel.

Key benefits

  • Ensure compliance with EEXI requirements
  • A standardised and cost-effective solution
  • Integrate with existing Wärtsilä electric propulsion system
  • Does not limit operational flexibility for the vessel
