Emergency – No Sail situation

Immediate guidance for situations where navigation is impacted and the vessel cannot safely sail.

Select the issue you are experiencing to see first‑aid instructions:

ECDIS Stuck in boot screen

Step 1. Remove external USB devices

  • Power off the affected workstation
  • Disconnect all external USB memory devices, for example:
    • USB flash drives
    • External hard disks
    • Keyboard & Trackball
  • Power on the workstation again
  • Check if the system boots normally

Step 2. Check hard drive connection

If the issue persists:

  • Power off the workstation
  • Check the front side of the PC / computer unit
  • Ensure that all components are properly seated and tightened
  • The hard drive is located at the front of the unit
  • A loose hard drive connection can cause the system to stop at the boot menu
  • After confirming the connection is secure, power on the workstation
  • Verify whether ECDIS starts normally

Notes:

This issue can occur if the system attempts to boot from an external USB device. A slightly loose hard drive may also prevent successful booting, even without visible damage.
