Vertom Group

Vertom Group is a leading Dutch maritime services operator with a modern fleet of over 110 vessels ranging from 1,500 to 12,000 DWT. In line with their commitment to sustainable shipping, Vertom chose Wärtsilä to supply an integrated hybrid propulsion solution for its four new 10,700 DWT geared tweendecker vessels. The solution optimises vessel efficiency while enabling zero-emission sailing modes. At its core is the Wärtsilä 25 – a fuel-flexible medium-speed 4-stroke engine.

Groot Ship Design is responsible for the vessel design and Chowgule Shipyards in India for the construction. Both vessels incorporate state-of-the-art technology for safety, crew welfare, fuel efficiency and operational flexibility and comply with IMO Tier III regulations. The enhanced flexibility of the vessels makes it possible for them to meet the diverse needs of Vertom’s clients.

The full scope of Wärtsilä’s hybrid solution comprises:

The propeller, engine and hull are optimised to ensure high efficiency and enhanced hydrodynamic performance. Wärtsilä EcoControl further enhances fuel efficiency through combined optimisation of the propeller pitch and engine loading.

The vessel design seamlessly integrates cutting-edge innovation with an economically viable approach, with a strong focus on reducing the carbon footprint. We are grateful for the collaboration and support from Wärtsilä, who are committed to contributing to this project.
