Wärtsilä celebrates 30 years of commitment to the Mexican energy market

Dec 4, 2023, 15:00 by Wärtsilä Corporation

Technology group Wärtsilä celebrates 30 years of operations in the Mexican market. An anniversary event was held in Mexico City on 23 November. The event showcases the company’s strong presence in Mexico, and its continued commitment to supporting Mexico’s capabilities in delivering reliable and efficient power. In parallel with the anniversary event, Wärtsilä inaugurated its new corporate offices in Mexico City.

“Over the past three decades in Mexico, strong partnerships have been created and a high level of trust has been established. Together we have formed a long-term vision for facilitating Mexico’s adoption of high-efficiency, low-carbon power generation capacity. Wärtsilä is leading the way forward with innovative, state-of-the-art solutions that meet the needs of a rapidly growing market,” said Risto Paldanius, Vice President Americas at Wärtsilä Energy.

Mexico’s population is expected to reach 150 million by 2050 from the current 129 million, thereby considerably increasing the demand for energy. Electricity consumption in the country grew by 3.4 percent in 2022 and, according to Mexico’s National Power System Development Programme, is estimated to increase annually by 2.5 percent between 2023 and 2037.

Wärtsilä has an installed base of power plants in Mexico totalling 1,105 MW. The company employs 146 sales, service and management personnel locally, working from 8 different locations, to support its operations across the country.
