Statement by Wärtsilä on the Gotland bribery suspect

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 29 August 2003 at 16:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä supplied the engines for two vessels owned by Rederi AB Gotland in 2000 and 2001. The scope of delivery comprised eight Wärtsilä 46 main engines and six Wärtsilä 20 auxiliary engines, as well as the propellers for one of the two vessels.

It has since transpired that some of the individuals involved in the sales of the vessels have been accused of bribery. The accused persons do not include either previous or existing employees of Wärtsilä Corporation. One Wärtsilä employee has appeared as a witness in the hearing and later as a possible suspect. Wärtsilä has co-operated with the authorities and provided the requested information on the deal. Wärtsilä will continue to work actively to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated.
