Wärtsilä to power Color Line and Tallink ferries

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 29 May 2006 at 12:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä will supply the engines for two high-speed RoRo passenger ferries ordered by Color Line and for a new Tallink cruise ferry, all being built at Aker Yards. ”We are extremely pleased with the confidence that Color Line and Tallink have shown in Wärtsilä. These orders, which we received in February, follow earlier deliveries to the same owners,” says President and CEO Ole Johansson today in his speech in Turku Finland. The value of the deals is approximately EUR 30 million.

The Norwegian Color Line AS has contracted the main and auxiliary engines for two new RoRo passenger ferries from Wärtsilä. The vessels are under construction at Aker Yards in Rauma, Finland. Each ferry will be equipped with four Wärtsilä 46 main engines and four Wärtsilä 32 auxiliary engines.

The order also includes a CBM agreement for the engines. CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) enables remote engine monitoring to support preventive maintenance and fault avoidance. Color Line’s personnel will be trained to operate the new engines at Wärtsilä’s Land & Sea Academy in Turku.

The ferries will operate in the Skagerrak between Norway and Denmark. The first will be taken into operation in December 2007 and the second in April 2008. Wärtsilä has previously delivered engines for Color Line vessels including the cruise ship Color Fantasy.

The new cruise ferry being built for Tallink at Aker Yards in Helsinki will have four Wärtsilä 32 engines and three Wärtsilä Vasa 32 auxiliary engines. The order also includes the design of the vessel’s engine room. Wärtsilä has earlier supplied the engines for Tallink’s Romantika, Victoria and Galaxy vessels.
