Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 25 July, 2002

Wärtsilä will deliver a 7 MWe gas-fired power plant to Raton, New Mexico, USA. The customer is Arkansas River Power Authority. The plant will be used for intermediate peaking and back-up for a coal-fired power plant. The power plant installation will be completed during the first quarter of 2003.

The contract was won in the face of tough competition. Both gas turbine and gas engine power plants were considered. In the end the Wärtsilä gas engine solution won due to Wärtsilä’s expertise and experience of supplying reliable power at high altitudes. The Raton plant will be operating at 2,010 metres above sea level.

Wärtsilä has won orders, from across the United States, for more than 250 MWe for peak shaving gas plants to be used for power supply when demand is at its highest.

There are two versions of this press release, of which this is the shorter version. The longer version, only in English, contains more technical information and is available on Wärtsilä’s website at: www.wartsila.com
