Wärtsilä BioPower and British Helius Energy in project development co-operation

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 20 September 2006 at 12:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä BioPower and UK-based Helius Energy have signed a co-operation agreement covering power and heat plant projects. Under the agreement Helius Energy will develop projects agreed jointly by the two companies.

Helius Energy will be responsible for conducting market research, arranging financing, obtaining construction and environmental permits, and making energy supply agreements. Wärtsilä BioPower’s role will be to design, engineering and deliver the plants.

“This agreement will increase Wärtsilä BioPower’s growth potential by allowing the company to concentrate on its core expertise – combustion technology and plant deliveries. Plant development, financing and permits require their own knowhow, which must also take account of local conditions and regulations. This is Helius Energy’s field of expertise,” says Pasi Rantonen, President of Wärtsilä BioPower.

The agreement initially covers 13 joint projects but this number could increase in the future.
