Wärtsilä signs global service agreement with IMO AB

Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade press release 18 March 2008 at 11:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä has signed a global service agreement with the leading screw pump manufacturer IMO AB of Sweden to establish a stronger after-sales network for IMO’s complete product range.

The cooperation agreement signed in February will result in an important addition to the range of products and services supported by the Wärtsilä network and increase the servicing outlets and availability of IMO pumps and spare parts. The agreement is made for two years, with provision for one-year extensions thereafter.

“We are always looking to increase the services we can offer and by signing this agreement our customers will have a new means of access to spares and services for the upgrading and retrofitting of existing IMO pump installations in a wide range of applications. IMO products will also be the first choice for Wärtsilä in all our service projects,” said Olav Pellas, Wärtsilä Regional Field Service Director, South Europe & Africa.

IMO believes that Wärtsilä’s experience and strong customer base will strengthen the company as Wärtsilä engineers are continually servicing other types of equipment in which IMO pumps are employed or could be retrofitted in a wide range of applications.

“It’s all about increasing the level of service to our customers and increasing the number of locations from where our pumps and spares are available. The agreement also raises the application knowledge of our pumps to another level,” said Jonas Haesert, After-Sales Director, IMO AB.

Outlining Wärtsilä’s goal of widening the range of services it offers, Christer Kantola, Vice President, Service Sales, Wärtsilä Corporation said: “Our objective is to strengthen our leading position in the marine and power plant markets and to broaden our unique range of services to support our customers’ businesses. This cooperation agreement is part of that strategy and will provide us with the means and knowledge to deliver a more complete range of services.”

IMO AB, which has been a supplier of fuel and lubricating oil priming pumps to the Wärtsilä engine production line for more than 25 years, will have a link on its www.imo.se website taking customers to the Wärtsilä network so that they can easily locate pumps, spares and services from more than 150 offices and workshops in 70 countries.

IMO AB, a member of the Colfax Pump Group, manufactures high-quality screw pumps suitable for pumping all non-corrosive fluids with lubricating properties. The pumps are of the triple-spindle type, with the basic components of three rotors, one of which is powered and two are symmetrically-opposed idlers. The three rotors seal against each other to form a series of chambers which provide the pumping action, moving the trapped fluid axially from the inlet to the discharge. IMO pumps are used in applications such as oil transfer, fuel handling and lubrication & hydraulic system.
