Wärtsilä, the leading ship power systems integrator, has strengthened its presence within the Brazilian maritime industry by incorporating Wärtsilä Ship Design into Wärtsilä’s Brazilian operations. A full range of local engineering services will now be available to shipowners, offshore operators and shipyards in Brazil. Customers will now also be able to benefit from Wärtsilä’s technological developments in ship’s propulsion, power generation and advanced service concepts.
Wärtsilä Ship Design in Brazil is an integrated part of the company’s global ship design organisation, which already has major hubs in Europe and Asia. Wärtsilä Ship Design in Brazil will generate new designs, ranging from low-cost, standard vessels to high-end, ground-breaking tonnage for the most demanding applications. Wärtsilä Ship Design will provide a broad and high quality offering of ship design services to its Brazilian customers, with the capability to give full design scope basis offers.

The Brazilian offshore industry has recorded impressive growth performance, and Wärtsilä is aligning the local capacity and scope of its organisation accordingly. The ship design organisation is fully owned by Wärtsilä and will have all the licenses needed to operate as an engineering services provider in Brazil. The company will employ an adequate number of chartered engineers and designers to meet the level of work being developed locally, and in line with local industry requirements.

This can include comprehensive services to ship owners, such as shipyard selection, drawings approval, and new building supervision. To shipyards we offer detailed design and engineering support during the construction phase,” Birkeland explains.
