Wärtsilä expands further in Norway – opens its first office in Oslo

Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade press release 15 May 2008 at 10:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä Corporation opened yesterday its first office in Oslo, as part of the company’s strategy to establish a greater presence in Norway and to be closer to the customers. Currently, Wärtsilä has operations in Rubbestadneset, Stord, Haugesund, Stavanger, Bergen, Ålesund and Trondheim. During the past year, the company has set up the offices in Haugesund, Stavanger, Ålesund and Bergen.

Wärtsilä in Norway has experienced strong growth in recent years, particularly in the offshore segment, a target area on which Wärtsilä’s Oslo team will be heavily focused. The company’s new office, located at Stenersgata 2, will also enable the shipping clients to be served even more efficiently.

”Being close to our clients is important in order for us to continuously provide excellent services. We have to be where the customers are,” says Ove Wilhelmsen, General Sales Manager, Wärtsilä Ship Power.

Wilhelmsen also points out that this current expansion is being carried out with recruiting in mind. “Wärtsilä’s workforce consists of highly skilled individuals, who work in a very international environment, and we are committed to finding the best talent. We hope to attract exceptional and capable employees to our office in Oslo,” he adds.

Norway has now become a key area within Wärtsilä’s global market, as the company has grown along with an increasing demand for its services. Today the company employs more than 850 in Norway, with the majority of its Norwegian operations based in Sunnhordland. In addition, Wärtsilä’s Global Ship Power Technology is led by Norwegian Arne Birkeland, who also serves as Managing Director of Wärtsilä Norway.

“Wärtsilä is continuously working on developing new technology that will produce even more competitive and environmentally sound products for our customers. In this groundbreaking work Norway is well represented, and I feel it will especially benefit our Norwegian customers,” says Arne Birkeland.
