Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 13 September 2002 at 10:00 UTC+2

Negotiations have been started with employee representatives at Wärtsilä’s Turku Factory in order to establish means of adjusting to the reduced production volume of the factory Wärtsilä’s weakening order intake during the first half of the year begins to affect the production volume of the Turku Factory during the autumn.

Negotiations have been in progress with personnel since the beginning of August on various solutions to adjust to the decrease in manufacturing volume. Alternatives include temporary employee relocation to other units, internal training and reorganized working hours. A local agreement has been reached with salaried employees to reorganize working hours to adjust to the production volume. However, so far sufficiently effective action has not been identified for meeting the situation in all respects despite the positive approach taken by both management and personnel. In further negotiations to adjust capacity and load one alternative on the table will be temporary personnel layoffs. This alternative would touch approx. 360  factory workers.
