Wärtsilä has been awarded the contract to supply a complete Inert Gas Generator (IGG) system, including engineering, for a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) vessel serving the offshore oil & gas sector. The vessel is owned by Thailand based PTT Exploration and Production PCL, and the new IGG will replace an existing unit. The contract was placed in February.
The Wärtsilä IGG to be supplied will include a number of advanced technical features, notably a vertically designed scrubber system that avoids the challenges caused by stagnant seawater. The Wärtsilä IGG is designed to resist corrosion through having all parts in contact with seawater made of 254SMO material, a high alloy austenitic stainless steel.
The modularised skid design enables easy lifting, while a noise reducing feature increases onboard comfort. Furthermore, the proprietary design enables less seawater consumption and better flow of the seawater through the cooling chamber.
“The advanced technical features of the Wärtsilä solution were crucial in winning this contract. The benefit to the customer is that they will have an extremely reliable solution with lower operating costs than with conventional systems,” says Juha Kytölä, Vice President, Environmental Solutions, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions.
The IGG has been specifically engineered to accommodate the customer’s requirements. The entire unit will be manufactured in a single location, and will undergo a full-scale test using seawater and diesel oil before it is installed.
The equipment is scheduled to be delivered by Wärtsilä in the fourth quarter of this year.
