Wärtsilä CEO Håkan Agnevall awarded LUT University’s honorary doctorate in technology

  • CEO Håkan Agnevall has been awarded LUT University's honorary doctorate.

Wärtsilä CEO Håkan Agnevall has been awarded an honorary doctorate in technology by Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) in Finland. The Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees will take place at the Sibelius Hall in Lahti on 28 May 2022. 

This year LUT University has conferred the title to nine distinguished Finnish persons and seven accomplished international partners in cooperation.  

"Our new honorary doctors include many of our long-standing partners in cooperation. We wish to thank them for the successful collaboration and strengthen our strategic partnerships in the future," says Vice Rector Jaana Sandström

Håkan Agnevall, CEO of Wärtsilä Corporation: “I am deeply honoured, as the CEO and as an engineer, to receive this award. This is clearly a recognition of Wärtsilä as a pioneer in marine and energy and of our focus on innovation in technology and service. We are proud to cooperate with LUT in various projects and I see this award as an acknowledgement of our commitment to decarbonize the marine and energy.”   

LUT University will award in total 16 new honorary doctorates this spring. The recipients of the accolade include highly influential persons in society and the world of science, such as professors and business executives. An honorary doctorate is a title granted to highly esteemed societal and scientific persons in recognition of their achievements.
