Wärtsilä wins power plant order in Brazil

Wärtsilä Corporation, Stock exchange release 10 October 2005 at 08:30 UTC+2

Wärtsilä was awarded the order for an 83 MW power plant in Brazil. The order is worth approx. EUR 54 million for Wärtsilä. The customer is Geradora de Energis do Amazonas S/A, part of the Servtec group. The order will be recorded in the Q3 order book.

The power plant, to be built in the city of Manaus in northern Brazil, will be commissioned ready to operate in summer 2006. Wärtsilä is also negotiating a contract to operate and maintain the facility.

”Ordering the entire power plant, ready to operate, from one supplier gives us financial advantages and mitigates our project risks,” says Mr Lauro Fiúza Junior, President and CEO of Servtec.

“The engines will initially run on heavy fuel oil but will be converted to operate on natural gas as soon as a gas pipeline is in operation,” says Mr Robson Campos, Regional Director of Wärtsilä.

Wärtsilä has so far supplied 13 power plants in Brazil with an aggregate output of more than 500 MW, and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of four of these units with a total output of 200 MW.
