Wärtsilä will supply a biopower plant to a company owned by South Western Co-operative Society Limited (SWS) and Irish Soft Woods (Grainger Sawmills Limited) in Ireland. The power plant will be supplied as a turnkey delivery. In conjunction with this order Wärtsilä has also been awarded a five-year operation supervision and maintenance contract. The total value of the customer’s investment is approximately MEUR 8.

This will be the first biopower plant in Ireland to burn sawmill byproducts – mainly bark and sawdust – in a combined heat and power installation. It is also the first biopower plant supplied by Wärtsilä to Ireland. The power plant will produce 1.8 MW of electricity and 3.5 MW of heat energy. It is scheduled to start commercial operation in May 2004.
