The technology group Wärtsilä has for the ninth year in a row been included in the Sustainability Yearbook by S&P Global.
This year, only 716 companies with top scores were selected into the Yearbook out of the 7,500 that were assessed in the 2021 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). To be selected as a Yearbook member, companies must score within the top 15% of their industry. Wärtsilä’s relatively strongest areas within its industry were sustainability reporting, codes of business conduct, strategy for emerging markets and innovation management.
“We are proud to be included in the Yearbook among the world’s highest performing sustainable companies for ninth year in a row. Last October, we announced our “Set for 30” commitment to achieving ambitious decarbonisation targets. By 2030, we want to become carbon neutral in our own operations, and to provide a product portfolio which will be ready for zero carbon fuels. This recognition gives us additional motivation in shaping the decarbonisation of marine and energy industries”, says Marko Vainikka, Vice President, Corporate Relations and Sustainability.
Wärtsilä was also recently included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), both in the DJSI World and DJSI Europe indices. The DJSI highlight the sustainability performance of different industries’ leading companies based on economic, environmental, and social criteria and inclusion is also based on performance in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).
In addition to the DJSI Wärtsilä is included in FTSE4Good Index, Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI) Excellence Europe, ECPI ESG Indices, MSCI ACWI ESG Leaders Index, S&P Europe 350 ESG index, STOXX Global ESG Leaders index and OMX Sustainability Finland Indices.
