Through its ability to respond urgently to the need for additional electricity generation, the technology group Wärtsilä is helping to alleviate power shortages in Bangladesh. The latest contract is for a 100 MW power plant to serve the Gazipur Industrial Zone. The order has been placed by China-based Hubei Electric Power Survey & Design Institute, and was booked in January 2018.
The fast-track delivery will comprise six Wärtsilä 50 engines running on heavy fuel oil (HFO). The engines are scheduled for delivery by July of this year, and the plant is expected to be fully operational before the end of 2018. During the past 12 months, Wärtsilä has earlier received orders for nine power plants to be installed in various regions of Bangladesh.
“We very much appreciate Wärtsilä’s fast response enabling this much needed baseload power plant to be installed as fast as possible. By providing a reliable supply of electricity to this industrial area, the economic growth of the region will be accelerated,” commented Mr Meng Hui, Deputy Director of Procurement Department, Hubei Electric Power Survey & Design Institute.
“Our aim always is to serve the customer so that he can, in turn, serve the community. We are, therefore, pleased and proud to meet this need for a fast-track delivery that will efficiently deliver energy to an area in need of greater security in the supply,” said Göran Richardsson, Regional Director, South Asia, Wärtsilä Energy Solutions.
Wärtsilä has previously supplied generating capacity to the same customer, and the good relationship between the two companies is further strengthened with this order. With this latest order, Wärtsilä’s total installed base in Bangladesh will be in excess of 4000 MW.
