Mr Jyrki Uurtio (38) MSc (Eng.) has been appointed Vice President, Gas and Light Fuel Oil Power Plants in Wärtsilä’s Power Plants Division. Before joining Wärtsilä he held the position of Business Segment Director, Electrical Wholesale at Onninen since 1997 until February in 2000. Before that, he worked for ABB Industry Oy since 1989, first as a marketing planner and sales engineer and later as area sales manager responsible for Great Britain and Canada, and then as marketing manager, engineering manager and supply manager. His most recent positions at ABB were General Manager of the Diesel Generators business unit and General Manager of ABB India, where he was responsible for the construction of a new factory. Before his career in industry, Mr Uurtio worked as a full-time visiting teacher in electrical engineering at the Helsinki University of Technology.
Mr Jussi Heikkinen (45) MSc (Eng.) has been appointed Vice President, Marketing of Wärtsilä’s Power Plants Division. He has worked for Wärtsilä since 1982, first in power plant sales at the Turku Factory and then as marketing manager in Vaasa between 1988 and 1990, after which he spent five years in Trollhättan, Sweden, as general manager of the local power plant business unit. He was then two years in charge of marketing and business development of Wärtsilä’s power plant business before becoming Area Director for eastern Europe. Since last spring Mr Heikkinen has been Vice President for Wärtsilä Development and Financial Services, developing the energy services business. In his new position he will be responsible for business intelligence including market information management, product strategies and market communications for the Power Plants Division.
Uurtio and Heikkinen take up their new posts on 1 December 2000 and both will report to Mr Pekka Ilvonen, Group Vice President, Power Plants Division.
