Wärtsilä supplies power plant extension to Jamaica

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 5 April 2005 at 15:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä will supply a power barge to Jamaica Energy Partners, an independent power producer (IPP) in Jamaica. The barge, with an output of approximately 50 MW, will run on heavy fuel oil. It will join an existing 74 MW power barge also supplied by Wärtsilä to the same customer in 1994.

The new power barge will be built in Singapore and delivered to Jamaica in December 2005 under a turnkey contract, ready to supply electricity to the local grid.

Important factors in securing the contract for the new power barge were the reliability of the first power barge and after-sales support from Wärtsilä’s Caribbean office in Puerto Rico.

The order is included in the order intake for 2004.
