Wärtsilä to deliver three gas power plants to Bangladesh

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 4 July 2007 at 09:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä has in May and June signed equipment supply contracts for three gas-fired power plants totalling 84.6 MWe to be delivered to Bangladesh. The total value of these projects is approximately 22.5 million euros.

The first contract signed in May is for a 6 MWe electrical power plant to be supplied to RAK Power Ltd, a Bangladeshi company that supplies power to the local RAK Ceramics factory. The contract includes engineering services in addition to the supply of generating sets and auxiliary equipment, and the plant is expected to be operational by the beginning of 2008.The fast delivery time was a major factor in Wärtsilä being awarded this contract, which will provide RAK Ceramics with reliability of electricity supply and cheaper kWh consumption.

Two contracts have been signed in May and June with Malancha Holdings Ltd for the supply of gas-fired power plant engines, auxiliary equipment and engineering services to deliver electrical power to two power plants in Chittagong and Dhaka. The Chittagong order consists of five generating sets supplying a total of 43.6 MWe, while the Dhaka contract calls for four engines supplying a total of 35 MWe of electrical power. Both plants are expected to be fully operational during the second quarter of 2008.

Wärtsilä gas power plants are designed for optimal performance in a wide variety of decentralized power production in both intermediate and base load applications, giving full output and high performance in hot and dry conditions as well as at high altitudes.
