Swift Drilling’s operations with a major oil company required a reliable internet connection on their Swift Rig 10 unit. The needs were for teleconferencing and crew welfare internet availability, and without operational downtime. Wärtsilä solved the problem with a single source solution, comprising a dual VSAT installation that includes VoiP, network management and airtime. A second 1 meter VSAT was supplied and the existing unit was re-used, thus creating a redundant solution. Both domes were installed on the corners of the rig to optimise coverage, and Wärtsilä delivered a special bandwidth router to separate the business and crew traffic. The result was an optimised airtime contract, delivered on time and at a competitive cost.
