Shore power solutions
The demand for shore power solutions is increasing in line with the global drive to decarbonise and reduce fuel consumption. The ability to utilise onshore electricity is a requirement in many ports today and is quickly becoming standard in new build vessels, with many existing vessels retrofitting to take advantage of the reduced fuel consumption and emissions that shore power solutions from Wärtsilä offer.

Alternative Marine Power
Alternative Marine Power (AMP) while in port allows the vessel to turn off the genset and take power from shore, which reduces emissions and fuel consumption in port and is already standardised in IEC 80005 that all commercial vessels can connect to
The AMP solution is most common in container and cruise vessels also RoRo, LNGC, tankers, ferries and mega yachts.
Charging of an on board energy storage system, usually batteries either as a fully electric or hybrid vessel. This option can be automated with a wireless inductive charging system or a automated plug in system for fast turn around or a manual plug in system. Both options allow a vessel to operate on batteries only meaning zero emission sailing is possible.
This solution is often used for shorter journey lengths such as tug or ferries or on defined routes with fixed ports where the charging terminal can be installed.
