Compared to traditional cleaning where the charge air cooler has to be removed from the engine, the Wärtsilä Delta cleaner allows the cooler to be cleaned while still in place, allowing for much more frequent cleaning. Because the cooler does not need to be detached from the engine the cleaning is easier and faster.
The cooler is cleaned from the inside out by injecting foam generated in the cleaning unit. The differential pressure (Delta-P) is kept at an optimal level due to the more frequent cleaning, leading to maintained specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC).
With no need to remove the cooler for cleaning, there is no risk of damage during removal or transportation. The lifetime of the coolers is also increased because the cooler is not allowed to get contaminated.
