The Wärtsilä Greenhouse gas reduction package for Wärtsilä 34DF engines
A straightforward software upgrade
With an easy to access control software upgrade, vessels powered by the Wärtsilä 34DF engine can significantly reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Wärtsilä GHG reduction package for Wärtsilä 34DF engines reduces unburned total hydrocarbon (THC) emissions by slightly reducing the charge air pressure and air-fuel ratio. The upgrade is based on adaptive combustion phasing control, which optimises engine behaviour according to the ambient and operating conditions.
Increased efficiency at low loads
The package can also include low-load optimisation for when the engine is operating in gas mode below 20% load. During low-load operation cylinders can be deactivated depending on the load – the lower the load, the more cylinders can be deactivated. The remaining cylinders then operate at a higher load, increasing efficiency. If the load demand increases, the cylinder deactivation is automatically switched off and the cylinders will instantly start firing in the normal order.
Straightforward installation, long-term benefits
The Wärtsilä GHG reduction package is ideal for vessels such as dredgers, ferries and offshore support ships operating at constant speeds in sensitive areas such as coastal or inland waters. As environmental legislation continues to get tighter the upgrade will be a valuable tool in helping vessels secure future
Cut emissions when operating in gas mode below 85% load
