Offshore Inert Gas packages

Our inert gas generator system ensures the correct atmosphere in the cargo tanks and pipes to minimize the risk of explosion onboard FPSOs and FSOs.

Based on more than 20 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of inert gas generator systems, the Wärtsilä Moss systems are known for their high inert gas quality and overall reliability.

High efficiency, low maintenance costs, and easy and safe operation, in combination with minimum space requirements, are important features of the unique design. The Wärtsilä Moss systems can be installed on new builds or as retrofits for existing vessels.

    Technical data

Inert Gas is a gas or a mixture of gases, such as flue gas, containing insufficient oxygen to support the combustion of hydrocarbons. An Inert condition is a condition in which the oxygen content throughout the atmosphere of a tank has been reduced to 8% or less by volume.

    Applications
    • FPSO’s
    • FSO’s

    Key benefits
    • High efficiency
    • Low maintenance cost
    • Easy and safe operation in combination with minimum space requirements

    References

    • Ichthys FPSO
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co (DSME) contracted Wärtsilä Moss AS to supply inert gas generator units to a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG project in the Browse Basin, approximately 200km off western Australia.

    • Aasta Hansteen
Wärtsilä’s extensive experience and technical expertise in gas handling systems were critical factors in the award of this contract. The use of unconventional materials, such as the titanium used in the construction of the Wärtsilä Inert Gas Generator, as well as noise reduction measures were also necessary.

    • Petrojarl I FPSO
In 2001, Wärtsilä supplied the Petrojarl I with two Wärtsilä 18V32DF dual-fuel engines to meet the power production requirements of low emissions and high efficiency.
