The 1st utility scale transmission-connected energy storage solution to accelerate the UK transition to clean energy transport

The 1st utility scale transmission-connected energy storage solution to accelerate the UK transition to clean energy transport

Pivot Power and Wärtsilä have partnered to deliver 100 MW of battery storage capacity across two sites in the United Kingdom. Pivot Power, an EDF Renewables UK-owned developer, aims to deliver up to 2GW of energy storage and high-volume power connections to accelerate the UK’s transition to a clean, electric future. These are the first projects in a planned 40-site programme of grid-scale batteries directly connected to the transmission system and will contribute to the UK's 2050 net-zero emission target with the addition of energy storage and other flexible energy assets into the UK National Grid.

Key learning objectives:
  • Learn more about a world-first national network of grid-scale batteries and how to optimise a portfolio of renewable assets.
  • GEMS optimising operational performance of multiple energy system assets.
  • What this means commercially and protection of income streams in a merchant risk model.
  • Enabling UK to meet its net-zero ambitions.
