With its quickly growing young population and increasing GDP, Jordan’s rising electricity needs are racing against futile fuel supplies. Historically seen as an energy-poor country, the kingdom continuously imports 97% of its fuel from abroad.

  • Quisqueya I & II, Dominican Republic
    In September 2011, Barrick Gold Corporation acquired a majority share in a gold mine located some 100 kilometres from the Dominican capital, Santo Domingo. The mining company quickly placed an order for a state-of-the-art Wärtsilä power plant to satisfy the needs of their new power-hungry mine

  • Humboldt Bay Generating Station, USA
    The Plant is located in Humboldt County near Eureka in northern California. PG&E selected Wärtsilä's technology in order to repower their existing Humboldt Bay plant. When compared to the existing 50 year old PG&E plant, the new facility will be 33% more efficient with 85% fewer ozone forming compounds and a 34% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions production.The plant was designed to meet the stringent air permitting requirements and California Energy Commission requirements in California.

  • Gera, Brazil
    The 85 MW Gera power plant in the city of Manaus, northern Brazil was handed over to the customer in December 2006. The five Wärtsilä 18V46GD engines in the power plant, built under an EPC contract, are supplying baseload power to the Manaus grid. In 2010, the engines were converted at site from heavy fuel engines (Wärtsilä 18V46) to gas diesel engines (Wärtsilä 18V46GD).
