Wärtsilä oil power plants

The Wärtsilä OilCube based on the Wärtsilä 12V32, Wärtsilä 16V32 or Wärtsilä 20V32 generating sets is a complete power plant unit designed to meet a power demand of 5 to 30 MW.

The OilCube is an extremely flexible, streamlined and exceptionally cost-efficient solution for power production. The design of the Wärtsilä OilCube is compact. Nevertheless, it includes a modular heavy fuel oil (HFO) treatment system consisting of two separators and a tank with separated fuel.

Electrically heated and without a steam system, the electricity consumption in a Wärtsilä OilCube plant is minimized by utilizing heat taken from the engine cooling water and lubrication oil systems. A closed-circuit cooling water system keeps the need for water down to a minimum. And radiators placed on the roof ensure the most efficient cooling in all circumstances.

Power Cubes have a low-voltage electrical system inside the cube that includes a plant programmable logic control (PLC) and a panel mounted WOIS™ (Wärtsilä Operator’s Interface System). Thus, the plants can be monitored and operated remotely or by using WOIS™ workstations.

Depending on power plant solution Wärtsilä engines are able to run on a wide selection of fuels, ranging from natural gas to fuel-water emulsions.

Fuels such as crude oil, fuel-water emulsions, associated gas, liquid biofuel, biogas and other fuels outside globally recognized standard fuel specifications, should be carefully analysed for each power plant project prior to use. Due to the nature of these types of fuels their quality might vary over time and consequently fuel quality analysis should be done on a regular basis.

The engine generating sets used in Wärtsilä power plants are driven by heavy-duty medium-speed four-stroke combustion engines. These generating sets consist of an engine connected directly to a generator via a flexible coupling. The generator and engine are rigidly mounted on a common baseframe.
