Wärtsilä’s expertise in sustainable and efficient shipping on show at Asia Pacific Maritime 2014

Wärtsilä Corporation, News 12 March 2014 at 11:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä’s Environmental Solutions, Ship Design, Propulsion, Pumps & Valves, and Electrical & Automation teams will take centre-stage at the Asia Pacific Maritime (APM) show in Singapore from 19-21 March 2014. Throughout the three days, visitors to Wärtsilä’s stand (R20, Basement 2 - Hall D) will be treated to presentations and networking discussions on how Wärtsilä products and solutions can meet challenges facing the region’s maritime community, and get a hands-on with a full-scale model of the Wärtsilä Control & Communication Centre (Wärtsilä 3C).

Wärtsilä experts will present solutions to address the growing interest in sustainable and “Green Shipping”, where owners, operators and the industry in general are looking at solutions and technologies that support efficient and environmentally sound shipping practices.

Dr Joe Thomas, head of Wärtsilä’s Ballast Water Management Systems unit with responsibility for the development, marketing and sales of the Wärtsilä AQUARIUS UV and EC products, will present at both the Wärtsilä stand and at the APM conference on 21 March about systems to meet current and future ballast water legislative requirements. Dr Thomas will also describe how companies can partner with Wärtsilä for maximum efficiencies on their ballast water installations and operation. Wärtsilä’s Ballast Water Management System have gained some of the highest-level industry certifications, including completion of verification testing for explosion proof (EX) requirements for its AQUARIUS UV system, as well as IMO type approval and the USCG Alternate Management System (AMS) acceptance.

Wärtsilä Ship Design Singapore will unveil the WSD PSV Series comprising four designs that bring a series of efficiencies and advantages to Asian owners, operators and shipyards. The new range of designs have been developed based on proven VS designs, customized for worldwide operational requirements and optimized for construction at Asian shipyards. The new WSD PSV Series has gained recognition in the market with multiple new building contracts, with one vessel already successfully delivered and in operation. Now this successful range of designs has been extended with two new designs to meet future demand in the PSV segment.

With liquefied natural gas (LNG) becoming a major component of the sustainable shipping equation, and fast becoming a serious consideration for ship propulsion in the Asia-Pacific region, experts will discuss how Wärtsilä’s 2-stroke and 4-stroke dual-fuel (DF) engines present owners and shipyards in the regional maritime community with viable options for their existing fleet and newbuildings.

Complementing the sustainable shipping theme will be experts speaking about Wärtsilä’s Waste Water management solutions that comply with the latest MEPC 227(64) discharge regulations, as well as the range of Exhaust Gas Cleaning systems that manage both SOx and NOx emissions. Wärtsilä systems ensure compliance in all regulated areas, with the largest number of SOx scrubber system references in the industry to date.

Wärtsilä will be at Stand R20, Basement 2 - Hall D at Asia Pacific Maritime 2014, taking place at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre. To find out more about Wärtsilä solutions for the Asia Pacific maritime industry, join the daily Networking session from 1645 to 1745 at the stand.
