SK Shipping and Korea Line Corporation choose Wärtsilä’s boiler conversion service to comply with IMO low sulphur regulation

Wärtsilä Korea Ltd., Local press release 27 February 2018 at 17:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä Korea Ltd, a fully-owned subsidiary of the technology group Wärtsilä, has signed Boiler Conversion Contracts with South Korean SK Shipping and Korea Line Corporation (KLC) in December 2017.

The first of its kind in Korea, the contract covers 6 LNG Carriers - four vessels belonging to SK Shipping, and the other two vessels to KLC. One vessel has been in operation since 1999, and the other five since 2000.  This Conversion Contract includes the on-time delivery of converted boilers that can use Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil, installation and commissioning during dry docking.

We have lots of Boiler Conversion services references and can help customers meet the 2020 global sulphur limit of 0.50% m/m (mass/mass) that was set by the IMO in 2016.  Ship owners complying with the new standard ensure that their vessels continue to operate sustainably. The Boiler Conversion contract provides customers with the opportunity to reduce operating costs and emissions, thus improving long-term competitiveness.

“Some of our customers choose to act now rather than later in order to comply with new regulatory environments.  Our lifecycle solutions enable them to realise savings and efficiencies early on, making them front-runners in their markets,” said SungChan Lee, Manager, Services Sales at Wärtsilä Korea.

“This contract shows our customers that we can meet their needs to expand the lifecycle of their products, and achieve fuel and vessel efficiency, amongst other benefits,” he added.
