After Wärtsilä Italia’s first and enthusing experience at the Barcolana 2016, this October too we made sure to be present at the regatta, now in its 49th year. The Barcolana has become an international event for the city of Trieste over the years, so much so that in 2017 it won the prize for the most crowded sailing regatta in the world, with 2,100 participants, thereby beating the Guinness world record. The Wärtsilä stand, located on the seafront between the Aquarium and the Stazione Marittima, welcomed thousands of visitors, including authorities, schoolchildren and engine lovers, who were able to see the “mega” engine (when compared to marine engines), the W38B, set up next to the stand, which drew the attention of many people who had their photo taken in front of the massive Wärtsilä engine.

Also present on the stand were Guido Barbazza – President and Managing Director of Wärtsilä Italia –, Raffaele Ferrio – Director of Human Resources –, and Ferruccio Canzi – Vice President of Finance & Control –, who had the opportunity to meet several authorities, such as the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Debora Serracchiani, the mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, the President of the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic, Zeno D’Agostino, the President of Interporto, Giacomo Borruso, and a number of union representatives.

Guido Barbazza expressed his heartfelt satisfaction for the presence of Wärtsilä Italia at the Barcolana: “over the last two months, our company has enjoyed high visibility in the Region, with the Open Day that enabled Trieste citizens to visit the San Dorligo della Valle plant, and now its stand in the centre of Trieste and at the core of an international event, showcasing some of the many activities Wärtsilä Italia carries out and is in the process of developing, such as for example augmented reality glasses, which many were able to test in person at the stand”. In addition, I am proud of the Wärtsilä team who enthusiastically organised and managed these events: well done everybody, once again we have shown that together the Mission is possible!”.
