Wärtsilä opens new Services workshop in Turkey

Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade press release 26 June 2008 at 10:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä opened today a new Services workshop and offices in Aliağa, north of Izmir, Turkey. It serves the growing number of power plants in Western Turkey, together with the large numbers of ships visiting the several ports along the coastline.

Wärtsilä Services has focused on extending and expanding its global network of offices and workshops. This year alone, Wärtsilä has opened workshops and offices in Namibia, Chile, Brazil, Dubai, Azerbaijan and now Turkey. In all these cases, the new premises have been set up to serve the growing number of Wärtsilä power plants and ship power systems.

“The workshop in this location is strategically really important”, said Ufuk Berk, Managing Director, Wärtsilä Enpa Dış Ticaret AŞ. “It is close to our customers, which allows us to react rapidly to their needs. Overhaul of engine components is completed at lower costs than when undertaken on site. The workshop puts our dedicated resources at the service of our customers and keeps up their earning potential.”

The premises at Aliağa extend to more than 1000 m2 of workshop and offices. Its work at present covers engine and automation services. It includes a workshop for fuel injection equipment, an electrical test room and a large parts store. It is equipped with a full outfit of tools and equipment for overhauling engines and engine components, including a valve-grinding machine, a lathe, a drilling machine, a glass blasting machine, a cylinder head washing machine, an ultrasonic washing machine, and a cylinder liner honing machine.

Eight people are already employed on the Aliağa premises, the majority of them from Turkey. The number of employees at the workshop will increase as business develops.

In the Tuzla-Istanbul service office and workshop, Wärtsilä Enpa has a Field Service and Ship Power team of 71 employees. In addition 15 employees of Services Sales, Power Plant sales, finance and administration are located at the head office in Beşiktaş.

Wärtsilä Enpa has power plant references amounting to 1,937 MWe in 212 engines in service and on order throughout Turkey. For a number of these plants, their owners have entered into operation and maintenance agreements with Wärtsilä.

With the highest priority of customer satisfaction, Wärtsilä Enpa has become the first company in the Turkish energy sector to obtain certification in all three relevant schemes: ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management, ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management and OHSAS 18001, Occupational Health and Safety Management.

Wärtsilä has been present in Turkey since 1991, at first it was through the Turkish agent, Enpa Dış Ticaret AŞ. In 1999, Wärtsilä Enpa Dış Ticaret AŞ was set up as a partnership between the two companies. Wärtsilä Enpa established a professional organization providing all sales and after-sales services for power plants and ship power systems in Turkey. Wärtsilä Enpa is the exclusively authorized company for the sales of Wärtsilä engines and power plants, after-sales services, and spare parts for Wärtsilä engines in Turkey.
