Wärtsilä to supply two power plants to Saudi Arabia

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 26 April 2004 at 10:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä has been awarded contracts by Southern Province Cement Co. (SPCC) of Saudi Arabia to supply power plant extensions for two cement plants near Jazan and Bisha. In the 1980s Wärtsilä supplied Sulzer engines to power the cement plant in Jazan.

Wärtsilä will supply one Wärtsilä 38 engine to each plant. The aggregate output of the two engines is 21.8 MW. Each complete generating set will be supplied on a turnkey basis. The new power plants will be put into operation in autumn 2004.

According to Wärtsilä sales staff in Saudi Arabia, the key factors favouring Wärtsilä were the lifecycle operating costs of the engines and the after-sales support provided by the regional office based in Jeddah.

Included in order intake Q4/2003.
