Wärtsilä Corporation Press release 24.11.2000

Wärtsilä brands Wärtsilä and Sulzer enjoy a 28% market share in global marine engine orders, according to statistics released by Diesel & Gas Turbine Worldwide (June 1999 – May 2000). Market share for the comparative period was 29 percent. The overall market has in the same period grown by 38 percent, to 23,743 MW.

Wärtsilä and Sulzer have increased their market share in large, over 15 MW engines to 41 percent (39%). Growth in this market over the comparative period was +41%. Market share in smaller engine classes fell. Lower market share in the smallest engines was partly due to the partition of the Cummins Wärtsilä joint venture.

Wärtsilä Corporation is the leading global ship power supplier and a major provider of solutions for decentralized power generation and of supporting services, such as maintenance and operation. In addition, Wärtsilä operates a Nordic engineering steel company and manages substantial shareholdings to support the development of its core businesses.
