Wärtsilä’s Operations and Maintenance group has reached an exciting milestone by signing its 100th O&M contract with Hindustan Zinc Limited, one of India’s leading Zinc-Lead producers. The contract includes full operation of a 29.62 MW plant in Udaipur, India.

“Awareness of the benefits of a comprehensive O&M setup is increasing throughout the industry,” comments Tomas Rönn, General Manager, Operations and Maintenance Sales. “The fact we are celebrating our 100th O&M contract shows that more and more companies see a professionally managed O&M program as being essential for the successful performance of any power generating facility.”
In fact, in this year alone, Wärtsilä has signed nine new O&M contracts in India with a total output of 80.6 MW, showing India to be an important market area for the company.
Brazil, too, has proved another successful region for Wärtsilä, with 3 new contracts signed in 2002 with a combined output of 208 MW.
Wärtsilä believes strongly in Long Term Service Agreements (LTSAs). Rönn explains, “From the customer’s point of view the development is moving towards outsourcing and concentration on their core business. Having a LTSA, the owner optimises the production cost and secures maximum plant lifetime; all this using the latest equipment and expertise directly from the manufacturer.”
To date, Wärtsilä’s O&M agreements have been mainly for operating Power Plants, but the company is now expanding to Marine and Offshore sectors and has already obtained contracts for operating machinery on offshore rigs.
Wärtsilä’s Operations and Maintenance group specialises in operating and maintaining power plants, from the smallest to the largest, incorporating the know-how of the power plant designer and supplier, with the experience of professional operators and the maintenance knowledge of the company’s global service network.
