Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 6 September 2001

In June Coteminas, a major Brazilian textile company, awarded a contract to Wärtsilä to supply a complete turnkey 5.6 MW Power Module plant which consists of two power modules, one electric module and a radiator cooling system. The Power Module features 2 x Wärtsilä 18V220SG engines and is fuelled by natural gas.

Wärtsilä will hand over the Power Module plant to Coteminas just 105 days from receipt of the order. The Power Modules will arrive at site pre-tested and ready to connect to the grid. The plant will be fully operational in the first week of October 2001.

The Power Modules will operate in base load. Later a development of the project will include CHP to produce steam for textile bleaching and drying processes.

Coteminas has urgent power needs due to the current Brazilian energy crisis, and reliable power will mean more uptime and higher profitability for it.

Wärtsilä Corporation is the leading global ship power supplier and a major provider of solutions for decentralized power generation and of supporting services.

In addition Wärtsilä operates a Nordic engineering steel company and manages substantial holdings to support the development of its core business.
