Wärtsilä Corporation has been awarded in July 2007 the contract to supply gas-fired generating sets and other equipment to the Belarussian state-owned forestry-to-wood processing enterprise “Bellesbumprom” for a combined heat and power (CHP) plant at a new paper mill in the city of Shklov in the Mogilev oblast of Belarus, about 300 km east of Minsk.
Wärtsilä will supply two Wärtsilä 20V34SG gas-fired generating sets and two dual-pressure waste heat recovery boilers, together with associated ancillary equipment. The delivery will take place in summer 2008. The engines will run on natural gas and their exhaust gas heat will be recovered in the individual boilers. Natural gas will also be used for supplementary firing of the waste heat recovery boilers. The plant will have a total electrical output of 17.5 MWe, together with steam at pressures of 12 bar and 6 bar.
All electricity and steam output of the CHP plant will be employed in the Shklov paper mill. This new mill has an annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes of newsprint and lightweight coated paper.

Forestry, timber, wood processing, paper and wood pulp are major industries in Belarus as forests cover nearly 40% of the area of the country. These industries employ some 90,000 people.
