Like the world-famous Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling said, “Some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”

Make a list.

So the next time you make a mistake, do not let it ruin the whole day. See failure in a different light: what good and bad things can you find in the situation? What did you learn from the mistake? How can you improve? Write thoughts down and go through your list at least few times.

Look ahead.

Failures prepare you for the future. Learn from your experience, anticipate possible obstacles, and think of a plan to overcome the problems. When you have a solid plan, you will be armed to cope even with unexpected developments.

Share your failure.

Admitting failure is important. Take responsibility for your actions and show others that making mistakes is not the end of the world. Encourage a culture where people can talk about their shortcomings: sharing makes the group stronger. In addition, often you will learn you definitely are not the only one fumbling.

The #hackyourwork challenge:

Next time you fail, write down at least three positive outcomes of it. Share your mistake with your colleagues.
